Announcing the Winners of the “Beyond Consumer” Word Contest
What do you call the folks who stand with farmers and choose organic, local, authentic foods? Who care about economic justice for farmers, humane animal welfare standards, and good environmental stewardship?
“Consumer” just doesn’t cut it so we put the question to Cornucopia’s 55,000 enewsletter subscribers. We were deluged with suggestions — some serious, some clever, some downright silly (for a chuckle read the list below).
From the total 150+ entries the staff picked our favorites. Then we shared the top 20 on Facebook for a vote. Drumroll, please!
The winners are…
- Real Food Advocate, submitted by Margy Lambert
- Conscious Eater, submitted by James Eisenstein
- Food Citizen, submitted by both Joan Gussow and Fred Kirschenmann
Each winner will receive a credit to ACRES USA, North America’s top organic/sustainable agriculture magazine and online bookshop. Thank you, Margy, James, Joan and Fred.
Milton Bosch deserves special mention for the sheer number and cleverness of his entries, among them: agronauts, organophile, cropper, organoclient, rooter, croppie, foodist, organist, pick niks, paytriots, garden angels, rain dears, aggies, growin’ men and women, and…wait for it…suns o’britches.
