You Have Power

Across the US, shoppers are pausing before choosing their eggs. The informed purchases that follow move the marketplace toward more ethical food systems.

More than 70,000 people consulted Cornucopia’s online Organic Egg Scorecard in 2022 — people shopping for themselves and their families, or retailers stocking the shelves of your favorite co-op or grocery store. Those purchases divert a significant amount of money away from the industrial food system, into real organic systems.

Let’s say your annual egg consumption matches that of the average consumer. That means you buy about 23 cartons of eggs annually. In 2023, depending on where you live, where you shop, and which brand of certified organic eggs you buy, that amounts to an annual egg grocery bill of approximately $183.

Based on these numbers, people using our scorecard last year potentially shifted $12.8 million dollars toward authentic organic food and farming systems. This has an incalculable impact on the environment and the ability for the best organic farmers to continue feeding us.
