Alexandre Family Farm is currently “under increased scrutiny” per Cornucopia’s scorecard adjustment policy, impacting the scores of both lines of dairy products they sell. This increased scrutiny is due to confirmed events on their supplier farms that Cornucopia considers animal abuse and neglect along with confirmed non-compliances with the National Organic Program standards. (Learn more here.) Throughout the inspection process, the operation corrected the existing non-compliances, according to the NOP Report of Investigation.
This grass-fed line of Alexandre Family Farm dairy is Regenerative Organic Certified. The other line of dairy they offer is not 100% grass-fed and employs different on-farm practices.
Cornucopia has been in conversation with Regenerative Organic Alliance, which administers the ROC label.
ROA states:
In order to continue bearing the Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC) label:
– Livestock must be grass-fed and pasture-raised
– Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations are prohibited
– Animals must be free from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain, injury, disease, fear, and distress, as well as free to express their normal behaviors
Regenerative Organic Alliance partners with third-party certification bodies that follow ISO 17065 standards to perform annual ROC™ audits, and each auditor receives training and performance evaluations.
NOTE: Point totals were adjusted based on Cornucopia’s Scorecard Adjustment Policy, where the brand might otherwise rate higher based on current practices. See notes for details on current practices.
