Cartons of Horizon milk

The carton may look the same. But Danone NA devalued all of the Horizon milk on grocery store shelves by dropping contracts with small dairies throughout the Northeast. At a time when authentic organic dairies are disappearing, the brand is doubling down on factory “organic” milk.

Despite the happy cows depicted on the packaging, factory organic milk comes from cows in manure-laden feedlots: These cows eat more grain and soy than grass. This milk does not contain the nutrients found in authentic organic dairy.

Together with our organic dairy partners, Cornucopia shamed Danone into offering better terms on the severed 89 contracts.

Organic mega-dairies are gaining even more power – they capitalize on what consumers don’t know about their milk.
