In light of the recent discovery of pentobarbital (a drug used for euthanasia ) in select lots of Evanger’s Hunk of Beef dog food, Cornucopia has temporarily suspended the Evanger’s rating on our Pet Food Guide, pending further investigation.

While this brand did meet our initial criteria for a very positive rating, we feel that this situation raises questions about the quality of their ingredients sourcing and integrity and we await the results of an ongoing FDA investigation. None of their organic products are currently a part of the recall.

Cornucopia does not routinely monitor or post recalls, but this one got our attention. For more information on this and other pet food issues, and to sign up for future FDA notifications, please go to:

Additional information and recall notifications can also be found at http://truthaboutpetfood.com/

If you have any of the recalled product, we are interested in doing an independent analysis and would like to hear from you.

Potentially affected lots start with the numbers 1816E03HB, 1816E04HB, 1816E06HB, 1816E07HB, and 1816E13HB, and have an expiration date of June 2020. They were distributed to retail locations and sold online in Washington, California, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

Please email [email protected] if you can help.
