Action Alert

As California Goes, So Goes the Nation

Democratic and Republican administrations, and Congress, have repeatedly ignored the overwhelming majority of Americans who favor labeling genetically engineered (GE) food in the marketplace. Our politicians seem to be listening to the corporate executives (their donors) instead of the citizenry.

But in California, the people have a right to craft laws of their choosing. Proposition 37, on the ballot in California on November 6, would mandate labeling of foods containing GE ingredients.

If consumers win this fight in California, manufacturers will likely begin to label food nationally for GE ingredients.

Multi-billion dollar, multi-national food manufacturing corporations are terrified at the prospect of labeling their foods containing GMOs. That’s why they are partnering with the biotech industry – Monsanto, Dow, DuPont, and others – by spending millions of dollars in an effort to defeat Proposition 37.

The corporate owners of Horizon Organic, Silk, Cascadian Farm, Muir Glen, R.W. Knudsen, Santa Cruz Organic and many other brands have already joined Monsanto and collectively donated millions of dollars to keep consumers in the dark.

Meanwhile, food manufacturers that share the values of organic consumers, like Nature’s Path, Lundberg, Organic Valley, Nutiva, Amy’s Kitchen and Eden Foods have financially contributed to support Proposition 37 (along with major allies Dr. Joseph Mercola at mercola.com and Organic Consumers Association).

Organic consumers deserve to know where their food dollars are going – are profits used to support Monsanto and other biotech corporations, or are profits invested in grass-roots efforts like passing Proposition 37 in California?

Please make your voice heard by signing the petition:

  1.   Tell the corporate players opposing your right to know what’s in your food that if they want your business, they can’t sell-out organic values.
  2. Thank independent organic business that have put their money where their mouth is.
  3. Ask large organic brands/companies that are missing in action to pony up. Talk is cheap.

We will send your statement along with thousands of others to organic corporate executives. They will listen to the most powerful authority in organics — the consumers. You hold the purse strings!
