CDA is known for favoring and facilitating factory-organic livestock production, especially with laying hens and dairy operations. They also certify hydroponic production despite language in the organic regulations requiring soil. They certify some of the industrial dairies operated by Aurora. Based on investigations by The Cornucopia Institute, the Washington Post and the USDA (illustrated in documents secured under the Freedom of Information Act) CDA operated improperly and was recommended to be suspended from livestock certification by the NOP. It seems they have now come to an agreement and voluntarily withdrawn from accepting new certified entities.
