Green Hills HarvestKerry and Barb Buchmayer operate a small farm that could serve as a model for what organic dairying is all about! It’s a family-sized operation, truly pasture based, and with a small on-farm processing plant. Their brand, Green Hills Harvest, is one of the few organic dairy marketers to receive a perfect score in our study. They write:

The Green Hills Harvest organic dairy, with an on-farm processing plant, was launched April 1999 in the rolling hills of north central Missouri. We have a pasture-based 550-acre organic dairy that provides a home for our small herd of 60-some jersey cross cows, as well as sheep, chickens, and a few hogs. The labor force currently consists of Kerry and Barb and a part-time employee. We run the farm, process the milk, and deliver to stores in three major metropolitan areas. Recently we switched from plastic jugs to returnable glass bottles, which have met with enthusiastic consumer approval. We prize our milk from the grass to the glass!
